Aivazovsky – “The Great Raid in Kronstadt”

“The Great Road in Kronstadt” is one of the earliest works by Avazovsky. The canvas depicts the seaport of the city of Kronstadt, which is located just 26 kilometers from St. Petersburg, right in the middle of the Gulf of Finland, and a majestic military sailing ship.

To write this stunning painting by Aivazovsky, he was inspired by the impressions of a trip to the summer training voyage of ships of the Baltic Fleet in the Gulf of Finland, where the young artist went in 1836. This canvas in the same year was presented at the autumn exhibition at the Academy, and after its graduation, the artist was noted as one of the best landscape painters in Russia, and all his works were highly appreciated by specialists.
